NEW ALBUM: BARENAKED LADIES | DETOUR DE FORCE

After a four-year break between recordings, the long-time popular Canadian band The Barenaked Ladies returns with their new album titled "Detour De Force." The band recorded the album in Robertson's living room in Northern Ontario and at Toronto's Noble Street Studios before the pandemic outbreak; the first new record from the band since 2017’s "Fake Nudes" took on an entirely new life after the world hit pause. The 14-tune set still showcases the clever lyrics, sharp musicality and pop melodies upon which the quartet built a career. Yet, the majority of the songs’ subject matter is surprisingly sombre. This band could never leave its tongue-in-cheek humour behind, but its new material is decidedly mature. Produced by Juno award-winner Eric Ratz with Mark Howard, Detour de Force demonstrates the benefits of the so-called “pandemic pause effect” that has resulted in so many excellent recordings in the past year. Faced with a working environment completely at odds with the standard record-release-tour model, many artists became immersed in making their albums in a way they hadn’t before with positive results. Barenaked Ladies were scheduled to perform their Last Summer On Earth tour this June; however, they had to reschedule their tour to Summer 2022.
