California’s own H.E.R first won attention back in 2017, and while the industry’s objection for immediacy has grown ever louder, she’s done things her own way. She has now released her long-awaited debut ‘Back Of My Mind’ and has certainly utilized her time well – finely contoured, carefully finessed. It utilizes R&B as its starting point while yearning towards a broader sense of soul that is curiously more universal while becoming yet more personal. Boasting 21 tracks on the Apple Edition alone, ‘Back Of My Mind’ is a true blockbuster and loaded with fantastic collaborators. It includes the recently released “We Made It,” plus “Come Through” (featuring Chris Brown), “Slide” (featuring YG), “Damage,” and “Hold On,” which H.E.R. recently performed with Chris Stapleton at the 2021 CMT Music Awards. "Back of My Mind" is H.E.R.’s first full-length since the 2019 compilation "I Used to Know Her." Earlier this year, she won the Grammy Awards for Song of the Year (“I Can’t Breathe”) and Best R&B Song “Better Than I Imagined”). She also won the 2021 Academy Award for Best Original Song for “Fight for You.”
