Following a pair of singles, pop-rock band Imagine Dragons have released their fifth studio album, "Mercury – Act 1," produced by Rick Rubin. a candid album that abandons metaphorically charged lyrics and embraces emotional extremities, holding nothing back. The title draws inspiration from the word “mercurial.” Their most recent single “Wrecked” provided a glimpse into what fans can expect from "Mercury – Act 1," the band’s first new music since their 2018 album "Origins." "wrecked was proceeded by the releases of “Follow You” and “Cutthroat,” which marked the band’s return with soaring ambition intact. Reynolds discussed working on the album during the pandemic with Rubin, who, despite his reputation was “very hands-on, very actively engaged” with the recording of the album. “During Covid, I sent [Rubin] 100 songs that I’d worked on over the prior three years,” Reynolds said. “And he wrote comments on every single song in an email. This was when we talked about whether or not to work together and get to know each other. I wasn’t expecting that. I felt like he would say, ‘This is too much for me to listen to,’ or not really dig in. But he dug in on all of them and gave me straightforward comments.” On September 8, the band will celebrate with the iHeartRadio album release party streaming everywhere at 10pm et on livexlive.
