Lorde’s long-awaited third album feels like the polar opposite of her second, 2017’s "Melodrama," as it is filled with calm, sun-kissed serenity. Today we get a deluxe edition of her album "Solar Power," which has different artwork and includes the two bonus tracks “Helen of Troy” and “Hold No Grudge.” With twelve songs and bonus tracks from the deluxe edition, “Solar Power” is a beautifully hypnotic album. While the instrumental is fantastic, Lorde’s vocals are the true pillars. Lorde and Antonoff make an incredible team as each song offers something delightful, whether that’s basking in the sun or stuck in an existential airport. in related news, Lorde has cancelled her performance at MTV’s upcoming 2021 VMAs. “Due to a change in production elements, Lorde can no longer perform at this year’s show,” the VMAs Twitter account announced on Friday. “We love Lorde and cannot wait for her to perform on the VMA stage in the future!” It’s unclear exactly what “production elements” are keeping the 24-year-old from taking the stage or if she’ll still be attending at all. Lorde, whose video for “Solar Power” is nominated for Best Cinematography, has had trouble with VMAs performances in the past. The VMAs — which Doja Cat hosts — are set to go on with several other performers, including Justin Bieber, Kacey Musgraves, Lil Nas X, Olivia Rodrigo and more. Set to air at Barclays Center on Sunday, Sept. 12, at 8 p.m. ET.
