Following his short-lived appearance on American Idol season 19, Benson Boone is making his music on his own. The Washington native released his debut solo single, “Ghost Town.” According to Boone, it’s “an expression of emotional maturity.” the 19-year-old singer-songwriter who has earned a sizable TikTok following and the attention of Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds has signed a label deal with Reynolds’ Night Street Records label in a partnership with Warner Records. “Ghost Town” is an impressive debut, with the type of accessible pop balladry that could cross over to top 40 radio. Boone says that he wrote the song “at a turning point in my life. I was just getting my first apartment away from friends and family, and it’s less about a fading relationship than me realizing it’s time to grow up and move on from my teenage years. “It’s the first song I’ve written,” Benson explains. “You may listen to the lyrics and think of a relationship, but that’s only part of it. One of my best friends was in a toxic relationship with a girl, and that’s how the idea of it started. However, it’s a very mature love song.” Alongside the song's release, Benson released the “Ghost Town” music video, which he calls “an expression of my personality and childhood.”
