J Balvin and Ed Sheeran have teamed up for a new two-song release consisting of collaborative singles “Sigue” and “Forever My Love,” both got the music video treatment. Marking the first collaboration between the pair, the two-song EP is powered by an uptempo reggaeton dance song and a stripped-down melancholy ballad, with each artist playing their acoustic guitars. Sheeran first dabbled in Latin music with his 2017 “Shape of You” remix featuring Zion & Lennox. The artists spoke about the process of collaborating on the tracks. “They were made in a very, very, very natural way,” Sheeran explained. “It wasn’t a label reaching out sort of thing. We met in a gym and made friends first, and then, later on, we started making music, and it just happened very organically. And yeah, I’m really excited to put them out, and see what you people think.” Sheeran, who sings in Spanish on both songs, revealed he picked up the language to work on his contributions. “I learned Spanish for them, which took a while. So I guess that’s my new party trick,” the 31-year-old joked. “Yeah, I guess that’s a skill that it shows off.” Most recently, the British singer-songwriter practiced his Spanish in Camila Cabello‘s “Bam Bam,” where he mainly sings in English but joins Cabello in the chorus singing “asi es la vida.” Both artists also shared that the two-song EP is just the beginning and teased that more of their pop/reggaeton combo is on the way. Sheeran and Balvin released albums in 2021; Balvin's "Jose" dropped in September, with Sheeran's "=" following a month later.
