NEW MUSIC: JIMMY FALLON | IT WAS A... (MASKED CHRISTMAS) (FEAT. ARIANA GRANDE & MEGAN THEE STALLION)

Jimmy Fallon, Ariana Grande, and Megan Thee Stallion have all teamed up to release a new pandemic-themed holiday song called “It Was A… (Masked Christmas).” It arrives with a video debuted on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon." Dan Opsal directed the accompanying music video as the clip leans into the experiences of the pandemic holiday seasons of the past two years. The collaboration, he said on the "Tonight Show," began last summer when he was writing and recording the song at New York’s Electric Lady studio. After various producers and record execs heard his solo recording, they suggested he recruit Grande to sing back-up. Then, Grande recommended Megan Thee Stallion to replace Fallon’s original rap section. “It Was A…” is not the first collaboration between Fallon and Megan Thee Stallion; in 2019, they teamed up for a "Tonight Show" sketch declaring “Hot Girl Fall,” celebrating pumpkin beer and cable-knit sweaters. Grande has also been a Tonight Show guest, recently Zooming in to share a clip in which she performed the national anthem at a hockey game in Florida when she was just eight years old. Last month, Megan Thee Stallion released her latest album, a collection of unreleased freestyles and loosies called "Something for Thee Hotties." Last week, Grande shared a brand new song entitled “Just Look Up,” a new collaboration with Kid Cudi.
