Kacey Musgraves has announced her new album Star-Crossed, which the follow-up to 2018’s "Golden Hour" is out September 10 via Interscope Records and UMG Nashville. Musgraves produced the album-opening title track with Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk, the writing/production team on "Golden Hour." Her recent divorce from Ruston Kelley inspired the album. “It’s to be fucked by love or luck,” she said of the title. “You’re ill-fated; it’s just not written in the stars. It is not for you.” As Musgraves has described, the 15-song album is inspired by Greek tragedies, tracing the arc of “a modern tragedy in three acts,” she said. With the announcement, she released the title track, which opens the album and begins its narrative. “Let me set the scene / Two lovers ripped right at the seams,” she begins, over flourishes of harp and acoustic guitar. “They woke up from the perfect dream / And then the darkness came.” After winning the Album of the Year Grammy for Golden Hour, Musgraves contributed a new song called “All Is Found” for the Frozen 2 soundtrack and emceed her own Christmas special for Amazon. Last year, she put a new spin on Golden Hour’s “Oh, What a World” for Earth Day.
