The 72nd edition of the Sanremo Music Festival has ended with a new winner. Mahmood and Blanco, with their track "Brividi," written by Alessandro Mahmoud, Michele Zocca and Riccardo Fabbriconi. They have won the crown and the traditional leoncino — the little golden lion awarded to the sanremese winner beating Elisa and Gianni Morandi in the Superfinal. As the winner of Festival di Sanremo 2022, they will have the chance to represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 on home soil in Turin. We are still waiting for Mahmood and Blanco’s final confirmation whether they want to compete in Eurovision. Mahmood is set to perform in Nonantola, while Blanco has a concert in Brescia the same day. Before the Sanremo final, they said they were “prepared for all eventualities: rain, lightning and thunderbolts.” The final Eurovision Song Contest 2022 takes place on May 14th. The overall combined results throughout the week consisted of televoting, the press jury, and the dermoscopic poll. All 25 finalists started with the scores achieved in the four previous evenings behind them when they performed their entries on the night judged by televoting. After the first round of voting, Elisa, Gianni Morandi, and Mahmood & Blanco advanced to the second and last round. Here all the scores were reset to zero, and the dermoscopic jury (33%), the press room (33%) and the televote (34%) came back into play. In the end, it was Mahmood & Blanco who emerged triumphantly.
