NEW MUSIC: NNEKA | LOVE SUPREME

The multi-faceted Nigerian-German singer Nneka is a name we haven’t heard in a while. She’s hasn’t popped up on our radar on the solo tip since she released her single “Nothing” back in 2017 (she also collaborated with Joss Stone on “Babylon” that same year). It looks like the singer-songwriter is finally ready to break her silence, though, with the release of her new album entitled "Love Supreme." The new album comes after a five-year musical hiatus, during which time Nneka decided to release her music independently rather than through a record label. This creative change has helped her regain her mental and physical health, as well as her work-life balance. "Love Supreme‘s" mantra? “Being present is the key to this moment.” Her single “Love Supreme” is a moody number thanks to a vibey synth line that acts as its base. Its whine is the only melody included among the drums; we pop rhythmically against it while framing Nneka’s vocal on the chorus. The singer, meanwhile, takes the opportunity to fill the rest of the song’s space with her voice as she pays tribute to a love that has been constant in her life. Nneka continues to perform and electrify audiences across the globe with The Roots, Burna boy, Tuface idibia, Groundation,Seun Kuti, Erykah Badu, Gnarls Barkley, Nas and Damian Marley. She won a MOBO for Best African Act in 2009 and recorded a tribute song called Viva Africa for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Also, in 2014 Nneka joined the empowerment panel on ‘Nigerian Idol’ Season 4.
