NEW MUSIC: THE CHAINSMOKERS | RIPTIDE

The Chainsmokers have dropped a new single, “Riptide,” off the group’s upcoming LP, "So Far So Good." The dynamic track reflects the need to embrace time spent with a significant other. “But if I only get one life, this is what I wanna do,” the duo sings. “And if I only get one life, I wanna live it with you.” “Riptide” is the third single to emerge from So Far So Good, out May 13, which comprises 13-tracks. It follows “High” and “iPad,” released earlier this year. The duo’s last LP, "World War Joy," dropped in December 2019. On the "So Far So Good" continuum, the spongy, future-bass-inflected single "Riptide" sits closer to “iPad” than it does “High,” though it occupies a perch of its own. Whereas hints of The Chainsmokers’ 2014-2016 style permeated “iPad,” “Riptide” feels decidedly rooted in 2022, a period of mature and evolving—yet familiar—Chainsmokers sound. At once airy and sweet, a complement to condensation on a spiked cider can set beside a summer pool, “Riptide” is ready to soundtrack the high dive. Drew Taggart and Alex Pall spent recording the album in Hawaii on an official album trailer. They reflected on their songwriting and making their new album during the lockdown. The duo said, “Thank you for giving us time to rediscover ourselves, our music, and our love for why we do this. The truth is, we could have only made this album now. And we can't wait to share it with you.” On Monday, the Chainsmokers hosted a Friends & Family YouTube Livestream, which featured Drew, Alex, and Matt performing three tracks from the album live in Alex's kitchen! Check out the performances of "High," "iPad," and the unreleased album track "In Too Deep."
