SONG YOU NEED TO HEAR THIS WEEK

BRIAN MCKNIGHT | FAITHFULLY

Multi-award-winning singer-songwriter-producer Brian Mcknight releases a new heartfelt ballad, “Faithfully." The new track was written by Brian McKnight and produced by Earl Cohen, Andrew Thomas and Claude Villani. “My new single faithfully is the personification of my enduring love between my wife, Leilani and I,” mentions Brian. He sings about the rock-solid attachment for his wife with much conviction, surrendering every part of himself that comes out boldly in his vulnerable yearns and narration. “Faithfully” follows Exodus, McKnight’s final studio album of original material. It included the top ten R&B single “Nobody,” as well as several other singles, including “Bad” and “‘42 (Grown Up Tipsy).” If you missed it, Brian McKnight had initially been announced that he was retiring from new music last year when he stated that his 2020 album “Exodus” would be his final. McKnight is most recognized for his strong falsetto and belting range. His work has earned him 16 Grammy Awards nominations, third only to Zubin Mehta and Snoop Dogg for the record of most Grammy nominations without a win.

GEORGE ALICE | MID YEARS

George Alice has released her new bubbly single entitled "Mid Years," marking her first original track for 2021. "Mid Years" sees Alice dip her toes into the world of bright, dancefloor-ready synthpop, singing emphatically over a bed of digital clicks and pops, hazy keys and propulsive bass. The track was co-written with Alex Lahey and Gab Strum (aka Japanese Wallpaper), with the latter also spearheading production. The track arrives alongside a dizzying film clip directed by Jack Bielby and Thomas Schaefer, which the pair said was inspired by UK street and club styles. It shows Alice and a group of friends on a night out, flickering between various aesthetics and filming techniques to encapsulate the vibe of her lively endeavours. In a press release, Alice said that she, Lahey and Strum had written the track together last year, convening over Zoom to work on what initially began as a track about high school exams. She pointed out that the group quickly switched their focus when ideas started to flourish, saying: “As we started writing, it felt more like a light-hearted breakup song. Alice will debut "Mid Years" live on a four-date run of headline shows slated to kick off in January. The indie-pop artist will hit stages in Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne.

ALISSIC | PIANO

Alissic has shared her new single ‘Piano,’ with a video co-directed by her husband and Bring Me The Horizon frontman, Oli Sykes. They describe a person despised by her ex and her attempt to break free from bad feelings. Having received hype, acclaim and millions of streams following her debut single "Like" last year, the Brazilian-born pop singer returns with "Piano," a haunting piece that tackles themes of mental health and helping others feel less alone. “It’s about people self-harming and them not seeing everyone around them,” Alissic said. “It’s saying, ‘I’m here, and I see you hurting yourself. I wanted to write something that showed the other side. The whole story is about a prince who self-harms, I’m here to help, but the prince is so caught up in his world that he doesn’t see it. “The message is for whoever is listening and going through the same situation as my prince to realize that they’re probably not alone after all. I want people to feel like they’re seen.” The artist – real name Alissa Salls – allowed herself to “experiment a little with combining my vision with the music” this time, with the unusual and frog-heavy video closely matching the world that she imagined the song to inhabit.
