Let’s just say it: There’s too much music with 95 million songs available on each streaming platform and tens of thousands of tracks being uploaded every day. It’s impossible to keep up with what’s out there. Luckily, there’s this list that breaks things down to just six essential songs you need to hear every week. Check them all out below!
ISAAC DUNBAR | BLEACH
Isaac Dunbar is still only eighteen, but his vision is clear: he wants to become a pop star for Gen Z. The young artist already has three EPs on his resume and has developed his musical world differently. His first single since the summer of 2021 already gives us the feeling that he has become even more determined. “BLEACH” is a song with an exciting structure in which we hear a very confident artist. The single starts very theatrical, after which it breaks open into a slightly more dynamic pop tune and then grabs you even more by the scruff of the neck because Isaac is clearly heading for a climax. The euphoria in the choruses is enhanced by the polyphonic vocals and is interrupted just before the last chorus by a very creative stanza. Isaac Dunbar is not afraid to throw himself entirely into his music and blur the boundaries of pop music even more.
BENSON BOONE | ROOM FOR 2
Breakout pop star Benson Boone is back with a feel-good single called "Room For 2." The follow-up to his smash-hit debut single "Ghost Town" finds the 19-year-old in a loved-up mood as he shares his feelings and talks straight from the heart. As fans have come to expect, Boone's powerful vocals are front and center. Over shimmering keys and an emotional arrangement, the newcomer sings about being there for someone he loves. It's the kind of youthful, wide-eyed anthem that is sure to touch listeners worldwide. About "ROOM FOR 2," Benson commented, "I write so many sad songs about different experiences I've had, but I met this girl that's different than anyone I've ever met & she makes me feel like I'd do anything for her. Room For 2 is basically just a journal entry about this girl." The singer/songwriter who is signed and mentored by Imagine Dragons superstar Dan Reynolds delivered a spectacular live rendition of "GHOST TOWN" on The Ellen DeGeneres Show last week.
ALICIA CRETI | CONGRATULATIONS
It’s safe to say that an overload of talent falls out of Canada, and newcomer Alicia Creti is here to back up that statement with the release of her very first song, “Congratulations.” If you’re active on TikTok, then you’ve probably noticed the 23-year-old singer/songwriter after a few of her renditions went viral on the internet. Once people realized that her vocals were out of this world, many demanded original music, leaving Alicia with no choice but to release her own track. After many trips to LA, Alicia and her superstar team of manager Amisha Sarkar and producer Midi Jones have crafted a flawless masterpiece in the form of her debut single. This song is pure gold from start to finish as Alicia’s vocals are put on center stage throughout the entire 3-minute song. Producer Midi Jones did a fantastic job of creating a soundscape that shifts the ambience while elevating Alicia’s innate talent. Few songs give me chills, but it is safe to say that this one wholeheartedly fits that category.
SARA KEYS | WHEN YOU LOOK AT ME
Singer-songwriter Sara Kays is celebrating her birthday with today's premiere of her eagerly awaited new single. "When You Look At Me" via Atlantic Records. The acclaimed Nashville-based musician recently shared an early demo of "When You Look At Me" on her hugely popular TikTok and almost immediately earned more than 1.7M views and close to 500K likes. Sara was inspired by the response and quickly hit the studio to record an official version of the song in trademark fashion. "'When You Look At Me,' is about feeling like the person you're with doesn't look at you the same anymore or act as they used to around you," Sara shares. "I wrote this song about a month ago when I was feeling that way in my relationship and decided to record it shortly after that while it was still real to me." To further mark the occasion, Kays has unveiled plans to support one of her favourite artists, Alec Benjamin, on tour this spring, with dates kicking off April 9th at Spokane, WA's Knitting Factory and travelling through mid-May.
SEA GIRLS | LONELY
Sea Girls has shared a brand new single, “Lonely,” alongside a nostalgic video starring "Sex Education" and "The Irregulars" actor JoJo Macari. The latest track to be taken from the band’s imminent and highly-anticipated second album, "Homesick," was premiered as the Hottest Record on BBC Radio 1 and broaches the subject of unrequited love. “It was written the day Ennio Morricone died, so was initially in honour of him, a nod to the good, the bad and the ugly – hence the whistle and the line ‘OK Corral,’” frontman Henry Camamile explained. “It’s about the best friend I probably should have gone out with but never did. We both moved on, and the band happened, and life got in the way for the both of us.” The video follows the journey of Camamile with unrequited love (LARA), as he imagines what she’s up to now in a series of colourful dream-like snapshots. The band has also announced a new UK tour today (February 15), which will take place in November. The seven gigs feature the band’s biggest headline shows to date, including one night at London’s Alexandra Palace.
ZOLITA | SINGLE IN SEPTEMBER
Alt-pop sensation and songwriter Zolita has released her new song entitled "Single in September" alongside a cinematic music video. This will be the second installment of a high-concept trilogy that began with releasing the viral single "Somebody I fed Once." The new video, which continues the narrative where "Somebody I fed Once" left off, spotlights her vivid storytelling alongside a wildly catchy, newly unbridled sound. Listen to "Single in September," a nostalgic, 90s-influenced anthem that shatters the notion of a picture-perfect rom-com ending in the new music video, which captures the ups and downs of whirlwind high-school romance before it crashes into quiet heartache. The video was produced, directed, and edited by Zolita. Quickly adding to her over 120 million global streams, Zolita's catchy pop-punk single "Somebody I fed Once," featuring shimmering textures and euphoric gang vocals, went viral upon release and has garnered over 30 million streams and counting.
